Battery-operated slide-viewers will be handed out, allowing each member of the walking tour to peer into the past. Ryan and Turek will relay the history of the switch event and of Nenagh, using the slide viewers filled with images of previous switch artworks and contemporary and historic images of Nenagh. At each location on the walking tour, Ryan and Turek will narrate the story of the event, as well as encourage participants to discuss the associations and history of each space, embodying a sense of what is / was there – and remembering gems of local folklore, such as the slow bicycle race that took place in the town in 1962, with the winner, Joe Pearce, taking an incredible four hours to cycle from one end of Pearce Street to the other. Part of the aim of the walking tour is also to think about the present – what is the town really interested in? The walking tour is essentially looking at a cross section of contemporary art and the concerns of the people of Nenagh.
