Lucie Kim & Felix von der Weppen: kontinuum

Kontinuum is a video installation in three parts.

I. anticipation
II. manifestation
III. reflection

It is about being and the human relationship with time and space and the complexity that evolves through these variables. It is the observation of human anticipation, manifestation and reflection. This cycle can be applied to our whole life, as well as to singular moments. It is in space and through time that we can give form to ourselves.

Lucie has created performance pieces, sculptures, photographs and films which are mostly concerned with human relationships and their immediate environment. In 2003 she created 40 elaborate questionnaires which were handed to her friends, asking them to apply for a specific relationship with her. Some people were accepted as best friends, lovers or acquaintances, others were denied their request. She attempts to document and archive aspects of our lives that are often taken for granted or not fully considered. She aims to preserve these notions in time and space. In her work, the world of emotions is turned into graspable objects.

Felix pursuit can be divided in two facets – reflectional and reactive. Within the first, he dismantles, deconstructs and rearranges learned biological and physical phenomena which results in absurd, surreal worlds and characters. The boundaries between dream and reality dissolve and with this fusion we can then reexamine what we have learned and acquired. Within the second facet, he investigates new materials in order to creating lively, organic structures and objects which interact with their environment. The process is as important as the final result and its documentation often becomes a significant part of his final work. Each project often consists of multiple works, ranging from new to classical media utilizing a variety of materials and processes depending on the subject matter.
