Bangor is a coastal town in Co.Down, Northern Ireland.

It lies at the mouth of Belfast Lough and has a history as a seaside resort since Victorian times. Bangor also has got one of the largest Marinas in Ireland.
The town is quite busy and about 35 minutes from Belfast.

Bangor has a long and varied history back to the Bronze Age. Today Bangor is both a commuter town for Belfast & a seaside resort for the surrounding areas. The amount of boats in the Bangor harbour shows how much the town is still enjoying to closeness to the Irish Sea and Bangor Marina still holds blue flag status.

Originally called "Inver Beg" after the stream which ran past the abbey, the name Bangor is derived from the Irish word Beannchar meaning a horned or peaked curve or perhaps a staked enclosure, as the shape of Bangor Bay resembles the horns of a bull. It may also be linked to Beanna, the Irish for cliffs.

Bangor has a lovely climate, which can be seen by the amount of palmtrees spotted all around the seafront. It has lively pubs and also good restaurants.

Although Bangor is quite a large town, it has a really small town centre, where pubs, restaurants & shops are all in a small stroll.
